What people ask us

What does AnkerSepp do?
AnkerSepp clips onto your existing electric anchor windlass and shows, on a built-in display, how many metres of chain you have paid out. No installation, no wiring, no tools.
Why does it matter how much chain is out?
How much chain you lay determines whether the anchor holds. Guessing by the sound of the windlass or by counting seconds is imprecise, and the chain markings that are supposed to help wear off. Knowing the number means you can pick your scope deliberately instead of hoping.
Will it fit my windlass?
AnkerSepp is designed for the electric anchor windlasses commonly fitted to sailing boats and motorboats. We are working through the individual models. Tell us which windlass you have when you join the waitlist and we will confirm compatibility before we ask you for anything.
Do I have to install or wire anything?
No. AnkerSepp is clipped onto the windlass and taken off again just as easily. Nothing is drilled, cut or wired into the boat.
What will it cost?
The price is not set yet. We would rather say nothing than name a figure we might have to take back. Everyone on the waitlist hears it first.
When can I buy one?
AnkerSepp is still in development and there is no release date yet. That is exactly why the waitlist exists: it is the one place we announce it.
What does joining the waitlist commit me to?
Nothing. It is not an order and not a reservation. We write to you when there is something worth writing about, and you can ask us to delete your entry at any time.
What happens to my data?
Your name, email address and -- if you give it -- your boat type are used for one purpose: to tell you when AnkerSepp is available. Nothing is passed on to third parties. The privacy policy sets out the details and your rights.

How much chain to lay for your depth: How much anchor chain for which depth?

The prototype, on the water

Filmed on a real windlass, not rendered. The device is still a prototype – this is what it does today.

Clipping it on The unit is pushed onto the windlass and turned a quarter turn to lock. Nothing is screwed, drilled or wired.
Switching it on One press and the display wakes: zero metres, before any chain has moved.
Paying out chain The chain runs out and the reading follows it, metre by metre, from 10 to 15.
Hauling it back in The windlass pulls the chain back aboard and the count runs the other way, 15 back to 10 metres.
